Bringing multi-cancer early detection closer to everyday family medicine
At the Taiwan Association of Family Medicine Annual Meeting 2026, Gene Solutions Taiwan joined family medicine physicians, laboratory professionals, and clinical researchers to discuss the evolving role of multi-cancer early detection, or MCED, in preventive healthcare.

Family medicine physicians are at the forefront of prevention. Through long-term patient relationships, they help individuals understand their cancer risk, navigate recommended screening, and make informed decisions based on age, family history, lifestyle, and personal health priorities.
As MCED technologies continue to develop, family physicians will play a vital role in determining how these tools can be responsibly integrated into routine care.

A highlight of the programme was a presentation by Dr. Andy Chang of Chiaan Medical Clinic, bringing MCED into a practical discussion led by a physician working in everyday clinical practice.
Using SPOT-MAS 10, a clinically validated MCED test that has received U.S. FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, as a case example, Dr. Chang explored how blood-based MCED may complement existing screening pathways by detecting cancer-associated signals across 10 cancer types, including several for which routine screening options remain limited.

The discussion also addressed a question increasingly raised by patients: how should different cancer-detection approaches, including MCED and imaging, be considered?
Rather than viewing these technologies as interchangeable, physicians must consider their intended roles, supporting evidence, limitations, and appropriate follow-up pathways. MCED is designed to support the earlier detection of cancer-associated signals in asymptomatic individuals, while imaging may form part of the subsequent diagnostic evaluation when clinically indicated.
SPOT-MAS 10 is intended to complement, not replace, existing guideline-recommended cancer screening.
We sincerely thank TAFM and all participating healthcare professionals for advancing this important dialogue. By connecting emerging scientific evidence with the experience of family physicians, we can help translate innovation into informed screening conversations, appropriate clinical action, and more proactive preventive care.
Let’s bring scientific advances into meaningful clinical conversations.
