Dr. Tran Le Son Receives Conquer Cancer Merit Award at ASCO Breakthrough 2024

Congratulations to Dr. Tran Le Son of Gene Solutions for receiving the prestigious Conquer Cancer Merit Award at ASCO Breakthrough 2024

💡 His study “Comprehensive validation of a cell-free DNA-based assay for multi-cancer detection:  A Vietnamese longitudinal prospective cohort study of 9,024 participants” marks a significant milestone in early cancer detection research.  

Conducted on 9,024 healthy participants, this is the first and largest validation study of its kind in Asia, demonstrating that the multi-cancer early detection assay, SPOT-MAS, can be a valuable tool for identifying multiple cancer types at early stages when treatment is most effective. 

🌟 Key Findings: 

➡️ SPOT-MAS could detect at least 50% of cancer cases with a specificity of 98%, provided the samples contained at least 4.9% ctDNA.  

➡️ SPOT-MAS showed a positive predictive value of 58.14%, meaning that out of every 100 people who tested positive, approximately 58 were confirmed to have cancer  

➡️ By using the advanced machine learning algorithm, SPOT-MAS can predict where the tumor was located with 84% accuracy

➡️ SPOT-MAS had a very high negative predictive value of 99.92%, an overall sensitivity of 78.13%, and a specificity of 99.80%. 

➡️ SPOT-MAS can detect cancers that lack standard-of-care screening options, suggesting that it could complement existing screening programs.
