Gene Solutions Indonesia Collaborates with POGI Banten for Hybrid Event on NIPT
On August 4th 2024, Gene Solutions Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Gynecological and Obstetric Society (POGI) Banten Branch, hosted a hybrid event through Alomedika titled “Beyond NIPT – Integrating Maternal Carrier Screening with NIPT” to highlight the advancements in Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening and its role in identifying both prenatal and maternal conditions beyond genetic chromosome detection.
The event featured notable speakers, including Dr. Didi Danukusumo, an Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist, initiated the discussion on integrating maternal carrier screening with NIPT. He particularly focused on the importance of thalassemia carrier screening in prenatal care and underlined the need to consider the types of genetic conditions that test can cover, their performance based on international guidelines and their relevance to the local population.
Following this, Dr. Sandhy Prayudhana, another expert in Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist, provided in-depth review of factors leading to false positive and false negative NIPT results. He highlighted trisure NIPT’s high accuracy, exceptional negative predictive value (NPV), and positive predictive value (PPV), affirming its reliability and relevance for prenatal care in Indonesia.
The hybrid format of the event included a panel discussion, Q&A session that allowed participants to engage in the advancements in NIPT and its role in addressing critical health issues like Thalassemia in Indonesia. Attendees gained insights into the capabilities of NIPT with cutting-edge #NGS technology and proprietary algorithms based on the rich genetic data of Asian pregnant women, and Gene Solutions’ prenatal product offerings, exploring potential solutions for enhancing clinical practice.
POGI MFM now recommends all pregnant women to be offered NIPT test due to their high accuracy and safety. This collaborative effort between Gene Solutions Indonesia and POGI Banten showcased the potential of NIPT to improve health outcomes for expectant mothers and their babies in Indonesia.
